London Metal Exchange plans 'low-carbon' aluminium trading

The London Metal Exchange (LME) plans to launch a trading platform and green attribute tracking certificate called the LMEpassport for 'low-carbon' aluminium, marking it the first time a metal will be traded based on its environmental footprint in the exchange's 143-year history.

The LME has outlined plans to support sustainable metal production through providing a separate spot trading platform whereby producers can voluntarily log their metal's carbon-related details and consumers can source low-carbon aluminium which is typically produced with hydropower and other forms of renewable energy.
