Demand for green electricity is largely driven by corporations who pursue an evironmentally friendly profile. This is becoming increasingly important as customers are putting pressure on firms and their supply chain. In the retail market, households are willing to pay a premium to purchase renewable electricity in support for sustainability and the green energy transition. This is especially visible in countries that have a relatively low share of renewable electricity production. In the Netherlands, Germany and Sweden, countries with large shares of coal-, gas- and nuclear production, demand for renewable electricity exceeds production from renewable energy sources.
