Higher GO prices seen at French auction

Tuesday, 26 October 2021

Powernext held the twenty-fifth auction of Guarantees of Origin (GO), with the book opening on 13 October and order matching on 20 October, for July 2021 production GOs.

A total of 3 761 GWh of supported RES-E GOs were auctioned, which is significantly higher than the amount of GOs offered last month 2 355 GWh. All of the offered volumes were sold. Wind GOs represented about half of the total auctioned volume.

The prices decreased slightly for most technologies from the previous auction. While the Wind and Solar GO price decreased from 82 Eurocent/MWh to 73 and 70 Eurocent/MWh respectively, the Hydro GOs increased from 71 Eurocent/MWh to 75 Eurocent/MWh, in last month auctions. Thermal generation GOs prices decreased from 66 to 64 Eurocent/MWh. Even despite the decrease, most GOs were traded at a premium compared to the OTC market in the last week.

It is also important to note that auction results are now updated at EEX.com, while the French auctions page at Powernext had not been updated at the time of writing this article.
